Beit Juhuro hosted a pre Yom Kippur co-ed live music event with Rabbi Daniel Binsky who sang Jewish songs accompanied by guitar, and shared stories from the lives of exemplary European Rabbis.
In Gorsky Wednesday we studied the works of Rabbi Yaakov Itzhaki, who was a Rabbi of Derbent and the head of the Jewish court (av beit-din) in the end of 19th century and later emigrated to Israel. The city Beer Yaakov was named after him.
He wrote a commentary on Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashana prayer books called Ohalei Yaakov.
He also compiled a list of Juhuri words whose origin comes from the Hebrew language.
Rabbi Zitron gave a series of lectures on Rosh Hashana and Sukkot in Ladies First project.
On Saturday night, we had our annual Selichot event. Prior to Selichot, Beit Juhuro hosted a special meal, - melave malka, followed by hatarat nedarim (removing vows and curses).
It was great to see that on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur the synagogue was full of people. We had classes throughout and right after Yom Kippur.
A special Gorsky Wednesday BBQ dinner was organized in honor of the Sukkot holiday which included dancing Lezginka, lec'haims, and pure joy of sitting in the Sukkah despite a rainy night.
On the last night of Sukkot - Hoshaana Raba it is customary like on Shavuot to stay up all night and learn Torah.
Many people took part in the all night learning at Beit Juhuro with refreshments which followed with shacharit at 5:20 am.
We had a blast on Simchat Torah, danced in the Synagogue, took the scrolls to the street and later in the evening the whole Beit Juhuro crowd continued the celebration with the community of Young Israel of Ave U. By now it has become our custom and a third year in a row.
In the morning we had a wonderful meal in Beit Juhuro after Hakafot and during the day we completed several Hakafot.
Stay tuned for our October newsletter which thanks to the help of many volunteers and sponsors was filled with amazing events and programs.
